Leadership Development - An Introduction

ECRS has served as a training ground for many successful professionals and volunteers in the field of recreation leadership. This leadership can then be used in any recreation setting including ECRS. Various aspects of the ECRS leadership development process are described below.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE (LDC)

The LDC tracks the status and monitors process and progress for anyone who is in training. It also develops guidelines for the process.

MENTORING - Each individual works closely with another person(s) - the mentor who supports, encourages and helps guide the trainee's learning process.

PRACTICE LEADING/TEACHING - This opportunity is available at ECRS events. This hands-on experience allows for structured constructive feedback with leader, participants, mentor, and trainee.

ASSISTING AT A WEEKEND OR MAJOR EVENT - Opportunities can be provided for developing leaders to assist a staff member. The mentor or an LDC member can assist the trainee in contacting staff members.

WRITING A COURSE PROPOSAL - Developing leaders who would like to teach a class at a weekend or major event can write a course proposal, which the LDC reviews and may recommend to the Board for approval. The LDC has developed guidelines which may be used in writing a proposal.
