Classes

Note: there is no separate Children’s Program at this event.

However, children are most welcome. Children aged twelve or older can attend workshops on their own. If under age 12, they must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Click to expand the descriptions below.

Singalong Circle -- Bruce and Linda Pollack-Johnson

Let’s raise our voices in song together! We have a songbook to pass out with a few dozen folk/popular songs most of us should know, but we can also do requests. We will go around the circle, and participants can lead a song, suggest a song for someone else to lead, take a raincheck, or pass.

Juggling/Circus Arts -- Bruce and Linda Pollack-Johnson

We will bring equipment for juggling (scarves, balls, rings, clubs, etc.), devil stick, diablo, baskets, and other fun things to challenge yourself with. If you’ve always wanted to learn to juggle, this is your chance! If you know already, learn some new tricks or pass with others!

Stress Relief, Resilience & Well-Being through Laughter -- Alexa Drubay

This 90-minute workshop will include the following:

  • An introduction to the history, applications and benefits of Laughter Yoga followed by a full Laughter Yoga experience
  • a brief self pre-assessment–How do I feel 1-10
  • a warm up
  • Full Laughter Yoga Experience: yogic Breathwork, 4 Elements of Joy: laughter exercises/singing/dance/play, improvisational movements
  • Yoga Nidra Powerdown Meditation
  • re-assessment–How do I feel 1-10
  • positive affirmations
  • Q & A

Non political and non religious.

No experience necessary. All exercises can be performed seated, standing or moving about the room.
No special equipment or clothing needed. Bring a bottle of water.

A mat or blanket can be used for the final meditation.

Party Games for All Ages -- Trevor The Games Man

In this fast-paced class, we’ll play a wide variety of everybody-wins party games for your living room or around the dining table. They require little or no equipment, require no special skills, are non-strenuous, yet are a rousing good time. Ice breakers, circle games, table games, line games, thinking games, partner games, large group games, small group games, noisy games, silent games, creative games, story telling games, and probably even a few weird and unusual games, too.

From Standing Ovation to Sit Down and Be Quiet!, from Shouting Proverbs to Picture Charades, from
Mirror Me to How to Start an Argument… everybody wins, everybody plays, everybody has FUN!

String Figures & How to Make Them -- Trevor The Games Man

From the simplest Teacup & Saucer, Angel, Eiffel Tower, and 5-Pointed Star, then moving on to intermediate figures like Osage Two Diamonds, Jacob’s Ladder, and Sunset, we will learn, practice, and experience the joy of making creative pictures with nothing but a loop of string and all our fingers.

With careful step-by-step instructions, and patient help for everyone who might need it, you will end with at least a handful or two of string figures at your fingertips as well as your very own loop of string.
And don’t forget Cat’s Cradle!

Folk and Line Dancing -- Debbie Karl and Sharon Underberg

Join us to enjoy an assortment of circle and line dances. We’ll be doing a variety of folk dances from around the world, as well as fun line dances set to Pop music, Latin, Swing, and more.

All dances will be taught – no partner or experience required.
